Designer Francesca Miranda Created 5 Custom Looks for Her Daughter-In-Law’s Wedding in Peru’s Sacred Valley

Save this story Save Story Save this story Fernanda Nebreda-Bello entered Francisco Jassir Miranda’s life by walking right into his home. A mutual friend invited Fernanda to a party in a building right across the street from where she lived in Bogotá on May 27, 2023. “Since I was already heading home, I figured why not stop by,” Fernanda tells Vogue . “As soon as I walked in, I noticed Francisco—turns out it was actually his apartment!” The two quickly began talking and falling for each other. While Fernanda had been planning a move to Mexico for work, that night Francisco told her he was going to complicate that. Says Francisco, “She walked through my front door. Never looked back.” Adds Fernanda, “I did eventually move to Mexico, and we did long distance for two years before getting engaged!”

The engagement took place on a trip to Florence in September 2025. Fernanda admits she was entirely surprised by the proposal. “I’d been completely fooled into thinking that wouldn't happen until 2026,” she says. The two were in Italy for a wedding, and Francisco asked her to join him for drinks at sunset on their hotel terrace. “When I arrived, he was already seated at a beautiful table in a gazebo overlooking the city, sipping great wine—but I still had no idea what was coming! He started talking about the future, then asked me to stand next to him for a photo,” she describes. “As he pulled out his phone, it clicked—that's when I realized what was happening.”

Meanwhile, two weeks prior, Francisco had flown to Florida to ask her parents for her hand in person. “Their reaction confirmed I was making the right choice,” he says. “We celebrated with a bottle of champagne and a celebratory dinner with both her parents and mine—it was the first time they all met. All this without Fernanda ever finding out.”

The couple set the date to get married at Tambo del Inka in Peru on August 22, 2026. “Given that most of the guests would be traveling, we thought it made sense to bring them to the most magical place in the world: the Sacred Valley in Cusco,” says the bride. “My mom, who is Peruvian, and I always dreamed of a wedding in Peru. We went a few times during the planning process, it was amazing being there with my mom, working out the details of everything. My mom's entire side of the family lives in Peru, and I have a cousin who lives in the Sacred Valley who also helped us with boots-on-the-ground logistics.”

To help with planning, design, and logistics, the family tapped FDB Eventos and Veronica Kohler to achieve their goals. Says Fernanda, “I think the wedding industry in Peru is one of the most impressive in the world—when we started working with our planners and conceptualizing the events, we were in awe of their ideas!” The couple decided to tie in both of their cultural backgrounds through other planning decisions. “We flew in a Venezuelan DJ for Thursday and Saturday and had a Peruvian DJ for Friday, while making sure Colombian music was woven throughout—especially ‘En Barranquilla Me Quedo,’ as a nod to Francisco’s hometown of Barranquilla,” says the bride. “We also brought in a little bit of Venezuela through the food, serving late-night wedding classics like tequeños and arepas.”

The easiest decision of the entire process was choosing who would design the bride’s wedding dress. Francisco’s mother is the acclaimed bridal designer Francesca Miranda , who created bespoke styles for the bride’s entire wedding weekend wardrobe. “I always knew I wanted my incredibly talented mother-in-law to design all my looks,” says Fernanda. “We ended up creating five custom looks for the different events: a denim set for the picnic, a silk white dress for the welcome cocktail, an incredible lace ochre jumpsuit for Friday, and two looks for the wedding.”

For her wedding dress, the bride knew she wanted to wear “something very delicate, almost sheer” in lace. “Building the dress with my mother-in-law was really fun—she understood the vision immediately,” describes Fernanda. “My mom came to a few fittings and was constantly nervous the dress was too sheer, but my mother-in-law and I knew exactly what we were going for. She very delicately layered lace patterns throughout the dress, creating an almost cloud-like effect at the bottom with a sheer-like quality over the legs.”

To accessorize, Fernanda wore her mother’s diamond earrings and necklace as a “something borrowed.” Once the reception began, her lace topper was replaced with a feather boa to spice up the look. For beauty, artist Edwin Beltrán gave the bride soft Old Hollywood waves and natural yet glowy makeup. “I loved the balance—it felt glamorous, but still very much like me,” she says.

The groom wanted to have his look feel distinctive at the black-tie affair. So he worked with his father to create a bespoke frac with tails for the day. “We both traveled to Barranquilla several times to visit the Francesca Miranda atelier and develop our looks—a process that made what we wore feel even more personal,” says the bride. Her sisters also joined in Colombia to create custom bridesmaid dresses with the brand. “For their looks, we chose a beautiful organza silk fabric in two different colors that complemented their coloring,” explains Fernanda. “They turned out beautifully!”

The couple curated a full weekend of activities so guests could make the most of their visit to Peru. “We wanted to plan a range of different events to show them the magic of the Sacred Valley,” says the bride. “On Thursday morning, for early arrivals, we had a picnic at Laguna Huaypo with kayaks, ATVs and four-wheelers, plus great music and good food. It's the kind of activity people who visit Cusco often get to experience, but it's not usually something people prioritize on a quick trip.” That evening as more guests arrived, the pair held a welcome cocktail party at Hotel Tambo del Inka. “It was meant to be just for mingling, but it turned into a full-blown dance party,” says Fernanda. “We ended up extending it another hour to keep things going!”

The following day, Francisco and Fernanda had guests join them at Mountainview , an eco-lodge at the base of the Andes, for a traditional Peruvian Pachamanca ceremony and dance party. “The theme was Mountain Groove, and everyone really embraced it—the looks were incredible,” says the bride. “We spent the afternoon with llamas wandering among the guests before dancing as the sun set over the Andes.” Later in the night, maid of honor MJ Nebreda took over the decks. “[She] had everyone going wild,” Fernanda says.

The next day, the couple met in the church aisles of Huayllabamba amongst delicate arrangements of baby’s breath. “When we were seeking locations, we really liked the priest, who was young and very excited to marry us in his congregation,” says the bride. As the couple’s families walked in, the bride’s sister-in-law Daniella sang “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley. “It made the ceremony feel personal from the beginning,” shares Fernanda. The groom remembers feeling emotional as the bride walked down the aisle, calling her “the most beautiful angel I have ever seen.”

After the newlyweds exchanged their vows and recessed as husband and wife, they went off to the mountains to take portraits as the sun set. The bride says, “We managed to make it back in time before the cocktail was over and were greeted by everyone!” Guests walked through a forest to a giant transparent structure that housed the reception. “As we made our way through it, bird sounds surrounded us—a lovely surprise from our wedding planners,” says Fernanda. Inside, there were layers of greenery and elegant yet organic florals. “Francisco and I walked in before everyone else and had a few minutes to take the whole thing in together,” she remembers. “It was surreal seeing something we had spent so many months imagining finally come to life.”

The reception included a three-course dinner with speeches from Francisco, the bride’s brother and father, and the best man, Alvaro. “During Alvaro’s speech, the Machu Picchu train from Peru Rail passed by right as it stopped at the hotel,” says Fernanda. “It was magical! Everyone got photos and videos of it.” After dinner, the newlyweds and their guests walked through a lit tunnel towards a second installation: a dome with the trees lit up outside. The couple had their first dance to “Procura” by Chichi Peralta, then each danced with their parents. “After the dances, I was surprised with a flash mob—organized by my siblings with almost the entire wedding!” Fernanda adds.

Then, the party went into full swing. Caracas-based DJ Drama kept up the music and Circo Mágico put on an hora loca. “We didn’t step off the dance floor once until 5 a.m.,” says the bride.

The couple reflects how grateful they are for their friends and family who traveled from all over the world to celebrate with them and make the weekend so special. Fernanda reflects, “Somehow, despite months of planning every detail, the moments I remember most are the ones we could never have planned: the surprise flash mob, my brother making me cry-laugh during his speech, and walking back to our room together at 5:15 in the morning after it was all over.”
