He was 37.

Bailey's brother, Alford, reportedly confirmed the news to TMZ, which was the first to report Bailey's death.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid acknowledged Bailey's passing to the media on Wednesday: "One of my favorite players. A great kid. I'm sorry to see that happen."

After being selected by the Chiefs in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft, Bailey spent 10 seasons in the NFL. Eight of those came in Kansas City, where he started a total of 61 games with the franchise. Over that period, Bailey was credited with 207 tackles, 19.5 sacks, 6 passes defended, 4 forced fumbles and 1 defensive touchdown.

That touchdown came in a big moment for the Chiefs. With the team trailing by three during a 2018 game vs. the Los Angeles Rams, Bailey scooped up a fourth-quarter fumble by Jared Goff and took it into the end zone to give the Chiefs the lead. The team couldn't hold that lead in the end, however, losing the game 54-51.

Following the 2018 NFL season, Bailey left the Chiefs to sign with the Atlanta Falcons. He spent two years with the team, adding 41 tackles and 2.5 sacks to his career numbers before he was released ahead of the 2021 NFL season.

Prior to his time in the NFL, Bailey was a standout at the University of Miami. He received first-team All-ACC honors in 2009 and second-team All-ACC honors in 2010.
